Please add the new functionality of OpenAi's first (full) o3 Agent - 'Deep Research'
https://x.com/gdb/status/1886229270428848399 - Proof that is is the full o3 model (not mini) and an agent
OpenAI says it's - "An agent that uses reasoning to synthesize large amounts of online information and complete multi-step research tasks for you"
Requested Features:
- Automated multi-source research
• Ability to analyze multiple sources simultaneously
• Integration with academic databases and reliable sources
• Cross-reference verification system
- Comprehensive Report Generation
• Automatic summarization of findings
• Citation management
• Structured output formats (academic, business, etc.)
- Resource Analysis
• PDF processing capabilities
• Image analysis integration
• Data visualization tools
Business Case:
• Reduce research time by 60-80%
• Improve accuracy and reliability of findings
• Compete effectively with other Al tools
• Meet growing user demand for advanced research features

Vijay Bharadwaj endu Hello, are there any news? I'm really looking forward to something like deep research from you, as you're currently the main service I use even though I have an OpenAI subscription, because you're simply more convenient and visually appealing 😁

Fronz hiii, we have made an internal version that we’re improving currently. the current situation is that a standard research problem statement is taking 10-15 mins of reasoning and browsing to come up with a report which is slightly subpar compared to openai’s agent. we’re optimising this time and cost of each operation, and hopefully, our first release of a deep research mode would look like this: upto 7-8 mins of thinking time, on par with openai’s agent and a decent allowance of usage for Pro users (hopefully under 200-250 Merlin queries for one operation of deep-research!)
also, in reference to the main post, obv, openai doesn’t offer the deepresearch mode as an api feature.
little more time, please!

Vijay Bharadwaj Hello, thank you for your response. I recently received a newsletter in my email where the You team is creating a cool feature. Perhaps you could adopt some interesting features from them: https://www.you.com/ari
Thank you for keeping us updated on the current state of development.

Vijay Bharadwaj this is good, however, if you really want something different from perplexity, chatllm, google deep research, etc... it should be very very in-depth, this means that it shouldn't summarize and give a brief report, it should be able to create a meaninful report, all the other deepsearch agents i tried aren't even close to OpenAI, and so far it's the best thing they ever released, so please don't make the same mistakes as other providers that is too brief... a sliding button where you can decide the thinking time, process and credit usage would fix this i think!

hi alan, we've started work on a merlin multi-perspective research agent (i am personally heading the initiative).
right now, it's in the planning stage, as we're trying to optimise cost, speed and quality in a hybrid research model somewhere between the qualities of Gemini/GPT-R, OpenAI Deep Research and STORM's methods of doing deep research.
the only bad news is since we're building it ourselves and not going forward with an open source integration, this will take time. if this takes too much time, maybe we'll just settle with an open-source integration.
we hope it is worth the wait :)

Vijay Bharadwaj You have my vote to take your time as you guys do fantastic work and focus on solving real world problems that your customers have.
If this takes too much time, maybe doing an alpha trial with an open-source project would be good to see how testing in user generated scenarios might help make the final product that much better

endu you don't need to wait for OpenAI to release their API for the Deep Research feature (if they ever will) there is already an open-source version and with a simple button selection this could be activated and Merlin Magic can decide which model to run it with
endu
alan Yeah, I actually had a discussion with Sid about this just today! We'll probably move ahead with its implementation. Thanks so much for sharing this resource – I'll make sure to share it with the team too 🙂

Hi alan & John 👋 Thanks for your enthusiasm and kind words! 😊 The Deep Research agent does sound amazing, and we completely agree it could be a game-changer. Rest assured, as soon as OpenAI releases the API, we’ll be the first to integrate it and make it available for you ..
